Gurgaon

Gurgaon, situated in the National Capital Region of Delhi, is a bustling metropolis that is being touted as the next Singapore of India.

The origins of the city's name are steeped in Hindu mythology. Legend has it that Gurgaon is the ancestral village of Guru Dronacharya, the teacher of the Pandavas and Kauravas in the Indian epic Mahabharata. Gurgaon comes from Guru (from Guru Dronacharya) and Gaon (meaning village). The village was gifted by the Pandavas and Kauravas to their Guru (Dronacharya), and was known as Guru ka Gaon (Village of the Guru), and later Gurgaon.

Today, skyscrapers and new age shopping malls dot the city. There are several malls, including those constructed by leading property developers like DLF, Sahara and MGF. The malls include multiplexes, bars, multi-cuisine food courts and stores such as Marks & Spencer. The malls are a big hangout spot. The top floor of the Sahara mall has 3to 5 different lounges.

Gurgaon is India’s original outsourcing destination, housing major multinationals such as Daksh, eFunds, Agilent, GE, Vertex, American Express, Keane india and Convergys. Other reputable companies such as Hitachi Metals, Coke, Pepsi, GSK, HP, Gilette, General Motors, Nestle have made Gurgaon their corporate headquarters.

Thousands of professionals have recently made their home in Gurgaon, buying apartments in newly constructed colonies and condominiums. The fast growing population has created a huge demand for housing and property prices have escalated in recent years.
