German Instrument of Surrender, 1945

The historical document about which this article should be written. It stipulates that all German forces are surrendered unconditionally and simultaneously to both the Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force and to the Soviet High Command . The German Instrument of Surrender provided the jurisdictional basis for the Nuremburg Trials, and — together with the contemporaneous invasion of Germany — formed the geopolitical basis for the division of that country into East Germany and West Germany.
