Engaru (遠軽町; -chou) is a town located in Monbetsu District, Abashiri Subprefecture, Hokkaido, Japan. It is currently in merger talks with Ikutahara Town, Maruseppu Town, and Shirataki Village.
As of 2004, the town has an estimated population of 18,416 and a density of 87.64 persons per km². The total area is 210.13 km².
History
- 1919 Engaru Village split off of Kamiyubetsu Village (now Town)
- 1925 Ikutahara Village (now Town) split off
- 1934 Ikutahara Village becomes Ikutahara Town
- 1946 Maruseppu Village (now Town) and Shirataki Village split off
