In the fictional Star Wars universe, the Emperor's Royal Guard (a.k.a. Imperial Guard) are the best and most loyal of the Imperial Stormtroopers. They wear flowing crimson robes and a sleek, featureless red mask. Their standard weapon is a forcepike which they use to inflict deadly wounds on enemies with great skill. They accompany Palpatine wherever he goes. They trace their roots to the cerulean-clad Senate Guards of the old Galactic Republic. The best Royal Guardsmen can aspire to become Sovereign Protectors , a special class which is trained in the dark side of the Force.
Among the most notable Royal Guards were Kir Kanos , Carnor Jax, and Grodin Tierce .
