El Prat International Airport

Barcelona International Airport is an airport in Barcelona, Spain located 10kms away at El Prat de Llobregat . The airport has the IATA Airport Code BCN.

It is accessible by Renfe commuter train and by Aerobus bus from the Station Aeroport in Barcelona's centre.

El Prat is Spain's second largest airport, after Barajas International Airport, and is the largest on the country's Mediterranean coast, though it is not the hub of any airline. Its domestic flights are mostly operated by Iberia and Spanair and it has many European destinations. The airport underwent a major development in preparation for the 1992 Olympic Games with the consruction of a new terminal (designed by Rafael Moneo).

Since then, significant increases in passenger numbers have necesitated the need for further expansion, with a new second terminal (designed by Ricardo Bofill) and control tower and an additional runway being built. A train station is also to be built nearby (connecting to the Spanish AVE network and Barcelona Metro). Once these developments are complete, the airport will be capable of handling 40 millon passengers annually.
