Edward Daly

Edward Daly (February 28, 1891 - May 4, 1916), commonly known as "Ned", was commandant of Dublin's 1st battalion during the Easter Rising, as such he was the youngest man to hold that rank, and one of the youngest executed in the aftermath. Daly was the younger brother of Kathleen Clarke, wife of Tom Clarke, and an active member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood. His uncle was John Daly, a promenient Fenian who had taken part in the Irish Rebellion of 1867.

Daly's battalion, stationed in the Four Courts and areas to the west and north of Dublin center, saw the most intense fighting of the rising. He surrendered his battalion on Saturday, April 29, 1916, and was executed by firing squad on May 4.
