Dom Bellot

Paul Louis Denis Bellot (born, Paris June 7, 1876 - Montréal July5 , 1944) was a monk and architect.

He became architect in 1900. In 1902 he became monk at the order of St. Benedictine of Solesmes. The monks were at exile in England, and Bellot began building Quarr Abbey at the Isle of Wight. In the Netherlands Bellot designed St. Pauls Abbey at Oosterhout for the congregation of the Benedictines (OSB). He designed several churches in The Netherlands, France, Belgium, Canada and Portugal. Most of them are built of concrete or brick.

Bellot was a Member of l Arche , an organisation wich goal it was to use modern materials and art for religious purposes. In Canada Bellot influenced several architects (i.e. Dom Cote OSB, Adrien Dufresne ) and his architectural influence was named "Bellotism".
