Dakshineswar Kali Temple

Situated on the western bank of the Hooghly River in India, the Dakshineswar Kali Temple was constructed by Rani Rasmani, a wealthy widow, between 1847 and 1855.

A year after the founding of the temple, the high priest passed away and the title was given to his brother, Ramakrishna. From then until his death 30 years later in 1886, Ramakrishna was responsible for bringing much in the way of both fame and pilgrims to the temple on the banks of the Hooghly.
