The Counts of Sant Sofia of France and Portugal.

The title of Santa Sofia was first used in Malta about 1776. Though its origins is believed to be of French creation. Agostino Formosa de Fremaux, the first Count was also member of the original Freemasons of Malta. His descendants later intermarried and inherited the Maltese title of Marchese di Ghajn Qajjed, and today claim both titles.

A notable aspect of this family, a grandson of Count Generoso Formosa de Fremaux (2nd Count), a Rev. Isidore Formosa de Fremaux is nominated for Sainthood in Malta.

  • Titled: Michael Formosa Gauci, Count of Santa Sofia
  • Heir: (his brother) Josef Formosa Gauci, as the Contino.
