Compendium Saxonis (also known as Abbreviatio Saxonis) is a summery located in Chronica Jutensis. It contains a summery of Saxo’s Gesta Danorum, about one-forth the size of the original. Written in Latin.
It is thought written by the same author as Chronica Jutensis.
It is in this summery the name Gesta Danorum is found. It is not known if Saxo also used this name for his original work.
As this is a summery, large part of the original work is cut out, at times maybe too much it seems. The author is less interested in war and battles, and stories dealing with such things are often cut heavily, at time without much thought.
The original Manuscript is lost, however it survives in four different handwritten copies, about a hundred years younger. One of them is written by a Monk, from Odense, in 1431.
