Comarcas of Spain

Officially, Spain is subdivided into:

• 17 autonomous communities (comunidades autónomas) and two autonomous cities (ciudades autónomas: Ceuta and Melilla).
• The autonomous communities are divided into 50 provinces (provincias).

Traditionally and historically, provinces are also divided into comarcas (singular comarca). A comarca is roughly equivalent to a US "county" or a UK "shire" or "county".
