Charles Péguy (January 7, 1873-September 4, 1914) was a noted French poet and essayist. He was a devout Catholic but not a practising Catholic. (1) His two main inspirations were socialism and christianity.
Charles Péguy was born in Orléans. He attended the École Normale Supérieure, from which he graduated in 1894.
Early in his life, he came under the influence of Henri Bergson.
He died in Villeroy-sur-Marne .
