Charles Frederick Beyer, an anglicised form of his original German name Carl Frederick Beyer (14 May 1814 — 1876? 1878?) was a German-British locomotive engineer, co-founder of the firm Beyer Peacock .
Beyer was the son of a weaver, born in Saxony, and although poor was able to go to university. He got a state grant from the German Imprerial Government to visit the United Kingdom to report on weaving machine technology. He returned to Dresden to file his report, but then returned to England to a job with the Sharp Roberts in Manchester with his friend Richard Roberts in 1834.
In 1847 the Institute of Mechanical Engineers was founded in his house in Manchester.
In 1853 with Richard Peacock , Beyer founded Beyer Peacock in Gorton, Manchester.
