Central Ontario is the portion of the Canadian province of Ontario which lies between Georgian Bay and the eastern end of Lake Ontario.
Some districts or counties within Central Ontario may be considered part of other regions in some contexts. Simcoe and Dufferin counties are considered to be partially within Central Ontario, and partially within the Greater Toronto Area. Parry Sound District and Muskoka are within Central Ontario, but are treated as part of Northern Ontario by federal economic development programs because of these districts' special economic circumstances; Parry Sound, but not Muskoka, is now classed with Northern Ontario by the provincial government.
As well, Haliburton County, the City of Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland County Peterborough County may be considered part of Central Ontario. All or part of Grey County and Bruce County may be classed with Central or Western Ontario. More rarely, Hastings and Prince Edward County may be considered part of Central by different sources; they are more often classed with Eastern Ontario.
