Digimon (
Japanese: デジモン,
romaji dejimon) was originally a dueling digital pet ("digi pet") created by
Bandai, circa 1996. "Digimon" are "Digital Monsters". According to the stories, they are creatures who inhabit the "Digital World", a parallel universe that is in part a manifestation of Earth's communication network.
