The main purpose of animal intelligence study is to learn about the origins of human intelligence by studying the mental processes of species perceived as lower. The basic premise of this research is that we need to understand the processes of association and learning in other animals in order to understand how they may have led to our development of culture, art, religion, mathematics, and everything else that makes humans unique in the animal kingdom.
