Burma Road

The Burma Road is a road linking Burma (now Myanmar) and China. Its terminals are Kunming and Lashio, Burma . The road was closed April, 1942 to January, 1945.

It is probably most famous to Westerners for its strategic role in World War II, where the Allied Powers used the Burma Road to transport supplies to China. In charge of the Operation was General Merrill and General Stillwell. At that time, Burma was a colony of the United Kingdom. When the Japanese overran sections of the Burma Road the Allies flew supplies over the Hump and built the Ledo Road. It was also called Stillwell Road.

During the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, Mickey Marcus built a make-shift road to Jerusalem that was called the "Burma Road" after its strategic predecessor.
