Babe (also known as Babe, the Gallant Pig) is a 1995 fantasy film that tells the story of a talking pig who wants to be a herding dog. It stars James Cromwell, Magda Szubanski and the voices of Christine Cavanaugh, Miriam Margolyes, Hugo Weaving, Miriam Flynn , Russi Taylor and Roscoe Lee Browne . The main animal characters are played by a combination of real and animatronic pigs and Border Collies.
The movie was adapted by George Miller and Chris Noonan from the novel The Sheep Pig by Dick King-Smith. It was directed by Noonan.
The talking animal visual effects were done by Rhythm and Hues Studios.
Babe was followed by a 1998 sequel, Babe: Pig in the City.
Awards
It won the Academy Award for Visual Effects, and was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (James Cromwell), Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Best Director, Best Film Editing, Best Picture and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium.
