In 1995, Digidesign (makers of Pro Tools) became a division of Avid. In August 2004, Avid acquired M-Audio , which is now a business unit of Digidesign.

David A. Krall
President and Chief Executive Officer
David Krall is president and chief executive officer of Avid. He joined Avid in October 1999 and was named to his current position in April 2000.
Under David Krall’s direction, Avid has evolved from an editing tools company to a more diverse player with products that support all the industries that make, manage and move media. Avid’s transformation has included strong inroads into media storage, networking, and media streaming, as well as major advancements in the company’s core post-production, broadcasting, audio, and 3D/animation product lines.
Before assuming his current role at Avid, David served as chief operating officer at Digidesign, Avid’s audio division. Under his operational leadership, Digidesign posted record growth and profit, expanded into new markets, and became the standard for professional audio editing in the music, television, and film industries. David joined Digidesign in 1995 as director of program management and was later promoted to vice president of engineering.
Prior to his tenure at Digidesign, David was a program manager at California-based medical diagnostics company Acuson Corp. (now Siemens Medical Solutions), where he led the development team for the Sequoia 512 digital ultrasound machine.
David holds bachelor of science and master of electrical engineering degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a master of business administration degree, with distinction, from the Harvard Business School.
Charles L. Smith
Vice President and General Manager, Avid Video
Chas Smith is vice president and general Manager, Avid Video. He joined Avid in 1999 from the company’s audio division, Digidesign. During his tenure at Avid, Chas has been instrumental in strengthening the company’s distribution channels, driving stronger overseas sales and marketing, and dramatically improving customer service on a global basis.
With nearly 20 years’ experience in the audio business, Chas joined Digidesign in 1993, where he helped open, and ultimately operate, a new U.K. office. Eventually, Chas assumed all international sales and marketing responsibilities for Digidesign.
Prior to joining Digidesign, Chas worked at Roland Corp. as sales and marketing manager. Before Roland, he managed a small facility that produced radio and TV advertising jingles.
Paul J. Milbury
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Paul Milbury is chief financial officer of Avid, responsible for the company’s financial affairs, including financial operations, financial strategy, and building solid relationships with the investor and financial communities. Paul’s organization also includes information systems, security, corporate travel, and facilities management.
Prior to joining Avid in December 2000, Paul spent 19 years with Digital Equipment Corp. (now HP, and formerly Compaq Computer), where he became vice president and corporate treasurer. In that capacity, Paul directed and managed Digital’s treasury, tax, and risk management functions worldwide. While at Digital, Paul raised more than $2 billion in the public capital markets and led M&A transactions valued in excess of $1 billion.
From 1998 through 2000, Paul served as chief financial officer of two start-up companies in the Boston area (Juniornet Corp. and iBelong.com), where he developed the business plans and raised $70 million in private equity capital.
Paul received master of business administration and bachelor of business and economics degrees from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Joseph Bentivegna
Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Avid Video
Joe Bentivegna is vice president and chief operating officer, Avid Video, responsible for the strategic oversight and management of the company’s core editing, storage, networking, and 3D animation solutions. With responsibility for the hardware and software engineering, product management, product marketing, program management, and worldwide manufacturing departments, Joe’s group brings together all of Avid’s activities in the major markets served by its video products, including film and television editing, broadcast news, corporate and industrial postproduction, and media asset management. Joe also manages Avid’s Softimage team, which specializes in 3D animation, compositing, and special effects software for the film, commercial, and interactive games industries.
Joe joined Avid in 1990 and has held a number of executive positions in the company over the past decade. He began his career at Avid as vice president of operations in Europe, where he was responsible for all manufacturing operations. Joe’s responsibilities have also included head of Worldwide Manufacturing, president of Asian Operations, and head of Worldwide Operations.
Prior to Avid, Joe spent seven years as vice president of European Operations at Access Technology, a software firm based in the U.K.
David M. Lebolt
Vice President and General Manager, Digidesign
Dave Lebolt has served in various capacities at Digidesign since joining the company in 1994. Prior to his current role as vice president and general manager, Dave was vice president of product strategy from 2000 to 2002, director of product strategy between 1996 and 2000, and Pro Tools product line manager from 1994 to 1996.
Before joining Digidesign, Dave was a professional keyboardist, producer, arranger, and composer. He toured and/or recorded with many well-known musical artists, including David Bowie, Billy Joel, and Laurie Anderson. Between 1988 and 1994, Dave worked in advertising music in New York City, was a principal partner in a music production house, and received Clio and Emmy® awards for various productions.
Michael J. Rockwell
Chief Technology Officer & Vice President of Software Engineering
Mike Rockwell is chief technology officer at Avid. As CTO, Mike is responsible for determining and shaping the technical strategy across Avid’s entire product line. Mike joined Avid in November 1999.
Prior to his appointment to CTO, Mike served as chief architect of Software Engineering at Digidesign, Avid’s audio division. While at Digidesign, he served as the technical lead for its flagship product, Pro Tools.
Mike began his career as a freelance recording engineer, working on projects such as The Wonder Years, Cadillac Man, and Cocktail. He was also the president and owner of a small software business and audio/visual production company, Rockwell Digital, where he created a number of software utilities that were licensed to Digidesign.
Ethan E. Jacks
Vice President of Business Development and Chief Legal Officer
Ethan Jacks is vice president of business development and chief legal officer for Avid. He is responsible for corporate and business development activities across the company, including mergers, acquisitions, and strategic partnerships. He also oversees Avid’s legal affairs. Since joining Avid in March 1999, Ethan has been instrumental in completing numerous strategic transactions that have enabled the company to evolve its product line and broaden its market scope.
Ethan has 12 years of experience in private law practice. Most recently he was a partner in the international firm McDermott, Will and Emery, where he specialized in corporate law with a focus on high technology and venture capital.
Ethan received bachelor of science and master of management degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and earned his law degree from Georgetown University.
Patricia A. Baker
Vice President of of Human Resources
Trish Baker is vice president of human resources at Avid, responsible for establishing worldwide strategy and direction of all human resource programs and policies, which include compensation, benefits, employment, training, development, and employee relations. Trish was promoted to her current role in November 2002, after serving for more than six years as vice president of HR at Digidesign, Avid’s audio division.
Prior to Digidesign, Trish held senior HR posts at major firms specializing in the medical diagnostics, immunological research, pharmaceutical, and industrial and specialty chemical industries. These included Acuson Corp. (now Siemens Medical Solutions); Becton, Dickinson & Co.; Sandoz; and Allied Chemical (now Honeywell). Trish was also president of The Baker Group, an independent consulting firm within the biotech industry that focused on both strategic organizational planning and executive team building.
