Aq Sunqur al-Hajib

Qasim ad-Dawla Abu Said Aq Sunqur al-Hajib (also Aksunkur el-Hacib or Aksungur al-Hajib) was the Seljuk governor of Aleppo under Sultan Malik Shah I. He probably enjoyed some independence from his lord and was from 1087 the de-facto ruler of most of Syria. Most of his land was conquered by the ruler of Damascus, Tutush I, in 1094. It is uncertain whether he still was the governor of Aleppo. Aq Sunqur al-Hajib was the father of Zengi, the founder of the Zengid dynasty and the grandfather of Saladin.
