The war between Britain and Russia took place in 1807-1812, during the Napoleonic Wars.
The Treaty of Tilsit, 1807 brought Russian Emperor Alexander I to war with Great Britain, Russia’s former ally.
Alexander I declared war on England after the British attack on Denmark in September, 1807. Several Russian ships were seized in British ports. In October 1807 Russian fleet under admiral Senyavin , returning from the Mediterranean, was interned by the British forces at Lisbon and detained in Portsmouth until the end of the war. The British men-of -war supported the Swedish fleet during the Finnish War and had victories over the Russians in the Finnish Gulf in July 1808 and August 1809. However, the success of Russian army on the land forced Sweden to sign the peace treaties with Russia in 1809 and France in 1810 and join the war with England.
Franco-Russian relations had been progressively worsening since 1810, and the Russian war with Britain virtually came to the end. In April 1812 England, Russia and Sweden signed secret agreements against Napoleon. After Napoleon’s invasion in Russia, the final peace treaty was signed.
