Aldus (typeface)

Aldus is a serif typeface created by Hermann Zapf in 1954. It was named after Aldus Manutius, the famous Italian printer, to reflect the Renaissance feeling of the font.

Aldus was designed as a bookweight text face companion for Palatino, which Zapf considered to be a display face. Some consider it less graceful than Palatino, but lighter and better suited for text in small point sizes.
