Air Wisconsin


Air Wisconsin Airlines Corporation (AWAC) is a privately held regional and commuter airline. The Appleton, Wisconsin-based company serves as a feeder for United Airlines, operating regional jets under the name United Express. United ended its contract with Air Wisconsin in April of 2005. Air Wisconsin is slated to become a member of US Airways Express, which is a part of US Airways.

History

The airline was originally founded to connect Appleton, Wisconsin with Chicago, but expanded across United's route network and through mergers with Mississippi Valley Airlines (1985) and Aspen Airways (1991). Air Wisconsin pioneered the concept of code-sharing with United Express and rapidly became the nations largest regional airline in the 1980's. In 1993, Air Wisconsin was bought out by private investors. It flew as a feeder for AirTran under the name AirTran JetConnect , but this relationship was discontinued in July 2004.

Air Wisconsin flies out of Washington, DC's Dulles International Airport, Denver, Colorado's Denver International Airport, and Chicago, Illinois' O' Hare International Airport, primarily to destinations in the Midwest and Eastern Seaboard of the United States. It flies to 70 cities in 29 states and 2 Canadian provinces.
