Agricultural history of Peru

In the mid-19th century, only 3% of Peru's land was farmable. It was not able to plant and grow to the extent that many other Latin American countries could.

There were many obstacles in Peru's way to improving its agricultural production. There were many mountainous and coastal lands in Peru that interfered with the land's fertility. The only natural resources that Peru was known for were silver, Guano, and cocaine. Over the years, Guano became the most important resource in Peru's history. In 1860, 50% of the Peruvian government's revenue was going to pay off loans that Peru inherited from guano sales.
