The AM transmitter in Burg, Germany is a huge facility for longwave and mediumwave broadcasting. Its most dominant constructions are a 324 metre guyed radio mast and two 210 metre guyed steel tube masts.
The 324 metre high mast is a grounded construction carrying a Reusen aerial for longwave. Both 210 metre masts are insulated against ground and can be used for longwave and mediumwave as well.
The longwave transmitter was used until 1994 for the Russian program "Radio Wolga" the Russian counterpart of AFN.
On mediumwave different programs of the GDR were transmitted, including propaganda transmissions.
The longwave transmitter was used from 1996 to 1999 by Radioropa info.
From 1967 to 1976 to this facility belonged also a 350 metre high radio mast for longwave, the steel tube framework mast SL3. This radio mast was erected in a distance of 2.2 kilometres to the other masts in order not to disturb their radiation pattern. It collapsed on February 18th, 1976 as a result of a faulty bolt.
